Camps Bay Retreat's Head Chef, Robyn Capendale, has returned from a coveted 6-week placement in Heston Blumenthal's Michelin three star restaurant, The Fat Duck, after being selected amongst thousands of hopeful applicants.
Every year the most ambitious chefs from all over the world vie for a chance to work hand in hand with a chef famed for groundbreaking gastronomy. Successful candidates are offered a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn the ins and outs of one of the world's top restaurants, as well as the secrets responsible for the star chef's success.
Blumenthal's fame stems largely from a central part of his approach to cooking: "multisensory perception and how the brain influences our appreciation of food. Increasingly (this meant) seeking out new ways to harmoniously stimulate all of the senses during the eating experience - orchestrating a succession of bursts of flavour in a dish or using smell to generate emotion or headphones to introduce the dimension of sound."
"My time spent at The Fat Duck has flown by. I never knew it would be possible to learn so much about food and cooking experiences in such a short period of time. I am excited to implement some of the magic things I have learnt and hope our guests enjoy the experience as much as I did" www.campsbayretreat.com
